~Marking up the new years~
This post will be 1 gigantic post. I haven’t posted in so long because of my computer catching a massive virus, and well, I’ve had too m any trouble in the pass. So I decided to take off the internet, and wait for me to buy another little lap top for internet.
So what to type up first? While I listen to a bunch of j music and internals I’m scanning in my sketches. Its one of my New year’s resolution to complete a book a month. I’ll start with low page counts first ( like 50 page books then work up to 100). Here are 2 pages that I worked up yesterday:

Really what to work up with textures, shading (some inking tech), animals, machinery and scenery. To keep my self from tiring out, I’ll post my sketches weekly or even monthly but not daily. So expect large posts. I’ll keep my sketch sizes small though.</div>
Here is my resolution list for 2009:
-Fill a sketch book a month
-Attend Life drawings weekly
-Complete “Galactic Divine”
-Complete 100 pages of “Intricately” web comic (sketches are 2 characters from this comic)
- Make “Intricately” on top 100 list on DD
- 50 male illustrations ( I don’t draw enough guys)
- 100 background sketches and concepts
- Have a portfolio to show at NYCC ’10 and/or NYAF 09
- Revamp web site portfolio including one for Design and one for my online business
- Start online Boutique business
- Receive 200 sales from boutique
- Develop new manga project to submit
- Break 40, 000 hits on DA
- Less procrastination and more organized in working
-Participate in 24hrs comic book day
- Get used to only sleeping 8hrs a day (currently its about 10-12hrs, rarely less then 8)
- lose about 40 pounds
-Maintain a nutritional diet
-Expand Resource/Reference library (and beyond manga)
- Sew 12 items (learning how to sew)
- Save 5,000$ for Investing.
A long list, but nothing too mind blowing difficult.
As mentioned to the list, I want to start an online boutique. I have a lot of creative interests so I see no reason for me to only limit my self as a comic artists. Being an illustrator comes first, but its always good to have several source of income if anything is too happen. Who knows where this boutique may take me, I might have a store some where (after all, comic work doesn’t provide retirement plans). I also wanted to do something that show case my design skills in both fashion and graphic design. For now, I’ll just be making few amounts like 1-5 per item and practice making new things.
I’ve already started with my packaging works like stationary and things. I currently work at Clairs so that I can get used to working in small boutiques and things. My god, its like everyone wants to steal. The store is cheap already so its just that notion that people just want to take instead of being honest. For that reason I might hold off having a boutique until much later (and one that is not so crowded with merchandise. Its so hard to see if/when people are stealing in that store).
Galactic Divine is going on slow as I’m still having some difficult writing a satisfying transition between the beginning and ending. I have those 2 parts thought out mostly but … I just don’t want to draw my self into a corner. Already I might change ch2 and resend it to my editor. Speaking of, she’s a bit quite, might be because she’s new, but I’m new too so I have not idea what the relation ship should be. I’m just going to do the work the best I can. Also found out how slow I am when I become a perfectionist on my work . It’ll be my first “published work” so I want to have a good impression given with all the negative OEL manga thing around. That and the comic is done in an older style (an appropriate one) to fit the story since its so light hearted and traditional shoujo. Another thing, the publisher is really trying to show the project to investors so they want a few profile color pics.
You know what? I never thought of the colors. When I work in BW I think in BW. The only person that had the colors was Tiane , Era, and Lynn because the cover pages and the first 4 pages of the book is in color. After that, I just thought in BW. So and so had ‘white’ hair, the other toned gradient, the other white with highlights and light gradients, ect. So I’m going back and thinking of a pleasant but appropriate color scheme. I think I’ll have to bring out my traditional markers thought. I can never work digitally to think of colors. Here is some illustrations:
When I was working with the guy on the right, I was still decided how I wanted to send to them the colors. I can work on soft style shading but decided against it and go for a more gradient cuts thing because right now, I’m on “traditional mood” and cant work Photoshop fast enough to blend. I still don’t care for painter so I’m still not working on that program. Plus I don’t normally deal with character bios for BW comics. Other then that, I will deal with a cell shading for the bios but for cover work and official art I’ll go soft shading or traditional (since it’s a lot faster).
Like I said, I’m changing up styles for a more darker look to prepare for future works of art. I still think my work would be 13+ because its only a few curse words and some violence but the stories are still Action Adventure. Listening to WebComics.com and reading up Bakuman helps me to understand how to ‘target’ market. After all, I’m sharing my comics for a reason. So I knew that my current style would have to evolve to something other then. Looking back at old works and checking out the new to further my abilities. A fan art I did for the awesome webcomic Edepth, started up my curiosity to draw out this new style:

Because of this though, I had tried to enter the girls comic ground Strawberry Comics, but as they want the comics to center around the theme of love, I can’t join them. We’ll still be friends thought.
So my website has been on the frits but its getting better. I’ll be updating with a new design before I get back got school on the 12th. I’ll be taking Electronic Imaging and Web Desgin so perfect timing. I hope I’ll have enough money to take my third class Principals of Selling. That would really help. Here’s a mock up design I did. Not of the arts is mine, but it gives me an idea of what to use and draw for the site:
You know, conventions are getting expensive for a beginner artists. Right now, Jacon wants to charge us 75$ for half a table and tickets but last year it was 25$ for tickets and 25$ for table. Why are they charging an extra 25$ for? I don’t really sell fan art nor to do sit at my table on Saturday so that 25$ means a lot for new comer. I rather just do panels to show off my works. Also, going to pocket that money for the savings, resources or internet advertising. I’ve decided to write out Metrocon because they make it too hard to make panels there, and its an hour away drive. If I find someone to share the tables (already sold out) and a few people to care pool with I might go. Still not going to Awa cause Hotel is too much for some one not into the game of monopolizing fan art like main of the artist of Georgia does (I like the artists in Florida. They have a lot of unique works to show in concept and style). I’m still debating if I’ll still go to Afo. Megacon is cheap enough 50$ for tickets and table with a much broader market so I’ll still be going. I also decided not to go to NYCC because I don’t fell confident to show in a portfolio. Next year I’ll defiantly have money for NYCC and Portfolio to show off. I might pass by the illustrator’s show too to get into the illustrators’ market.
With manga getting to be increasingly expensive hobby (and lesser quality out put), I just got to look ‘out of the box’ for my self.
I’ve typed enough right?
Happy New Years
And look forward to lots of progress!

I’m stretching out the use of orange as it distracts too much from color pages. Yes, Intricately will be in color. With the help of 2 friends doing the inking and flat colors (and with a buffer) I hope to really get a strong hold in the webcomics arena. I wanted to start on this back in December but decided it would be better to start around march. I like the feel of having a webcomics so I want to continue it even if I have a published work too. Combining the 2 most likely will yield a greater audience so why not? (and I hate static web sites, self publishing small runs are pretty fun too). I still haven’t thought up for the design site but I think I will during class. Also still debating wither or not to continue through illustration school for Flager or in another state. It’ll all depends on how well I can improve this year and how my net working will be. I might even move next year. We’ll see what happens.
